Although D-Hoff already had the role at this point, what you're seeing is a screen test to see how the makeup, wigs, and outfits looked on film.
I read in this movie's triv that Dusty did a lot of things in character before filming, to see how believable Dorothy Michaels really was, including going to his neice's school play, or something like that. People thought he was the aunt.
This might be one of the ugliest drag queens in cinematic history, but she's mighty high on our list of faves.
