Well was this movie ever a surprise for us. SO MUCH TO SAY! While digging through the Wal-Mart bin of $5 movies (as is our custom as cinema-obsessed folks) we stumbled across a thicker than usual DVD case. We eye-balled it and weren't sure what we were seeing.
It was a collection of 4 movies-in-one. Obviously low-budget, straight to DVD type films. This doesn't bother us one bit. A film's a film, and you never know where you're gonna find a gem! A treasure! An all-time favie! (A key rule to becoming cinema obsessed - throw away your movie prejudices.)
The Curse of King Tut's Tomb is the one to focus on today. We'll get to the others as soon as we watch 'em.
The movie began and we were a little blown away by the production quality. Costumes, sets, locations, the filmmakers weren't skimping as much as I'd thought they would.
So anyhoos, Casper Van Dien stars as Danny Freemont, a young, handsome, archeologist who finds King Tut's Tomb, and some light-hearted (yet intense) drama starts unfolding. No need to go into plot lines. It's as predictable as you are imagining it is.
Although it was a COMPLETE rip-off of one of my re-watched favies (The Mummy), we still had a great time watching. Even some of the actors from The Mummy returned for this movie. They must have been itching for a paycheck.
About 20 minutes into Tut, we looked at each other and thought "hooollly cow!!!... this is a collection of 4 made-for-tv movies! JACKPOT!" To most it would be a disappointment, but not for the cinema obsessed.
Check out the trailer for some familiar faces and hilarious ripped-off plot lines. Made-for-tvs are not just good for watching mindlessly - there are some hilariously good times to be had... if you know enough about movies to enjoy the silliness...
More to come later about the other 3 in the collection... Pirates, Magicians, and Disasters! Stay Tuned!
