Opulent Opening: Beetlejuice

In honour of Melanie, from Melanie's Randomness, becoming this week's Cin-Ob Supreme, we present you with this Opulent Opening of one of our favie Burton flicks ever. Great choice, Mel.

This is the most Tim-Burtony opening that ever was, if you ask me. The Danny Elfman score, oh so creepy and gothic, and the panning view over the town. But wait... that ain't no town! It's a model! Oh Tim Burton, you sneaky bugger. It always scared the hell out of me as a kid, and I didn't know why. Maybe it was that terrifying death-trap - the covered red bridge. Oh yeah, and the horrific spider crawlin' all up on the hizzouse.

This was a great way to introduce the audience to the world of the film because it gives you that sense of "things are not what they seem." Not to mentinon this mini-town plays a vital role throughout the story, since Betelgeuse (pronounced incorrectly as Bay-tel-guys) is chillin' out in the cemetery, and the recently deceased Adam and Barbara have to dig him out of the model.
