Hairspray 2 in Production... grrroooaannn....

Yup, they went there. So we went from Hairspray the movie to Hairspray the Braodway show, then back to Hairspray the movie...The penny-sucking filmmakers just HAD to take it one step too far. Sigh. We're gonna see this movie anyway. You know.... we gotta.

Hairspray 2 is in pre-production, with the same director coming back, and the producers have said they are trying to get as much of the original movie cast back for the sequel.

Since we're cinema obsessed, we just happen to know that the filmmakers will probably have difficulties recruiting tween heart-throb, twinkle-toes, swoonworthy Zac Efron. He has already said publicly that he wants to get away from family films and musicals. Yeah... because those things only made him a multi-millionaire. But he wants RESPECT! Whatever Z... you're a male pop-tart. Enjoy it while you can, because you'll probably fade away with all the other Disney pan-flashes.

(Interesting note, Efron turned down the lead role in the new Footloose re-make, and Chace Crawford of Gossip Girl took the sloppy-seconds role. Yes they're really making this movie too. We'll have more to say later.)



The only tiny ray of hope for Hairspray 2 lies in the concept - the film will follow heroine Tracy Turnblad as she explores the exciting world of rock 'n roll during the British Invasion of the late 60s. And yes... this tiny little fact is enough to entice us into seeing it.
