Here's an interesting summer release. On August 7, 2009, Julie & Julia is coming to theatres.
We love aaannnyything Meryl Streep does, and we think she's the best choice to play famed chef Julia Childs in the new biopic. Although we don't see this one breaking any box office records, or drawing hoards of people to opening night, we DO predict critical acclaim, as per usual, for Streep's performance. Without even seeing it, we would bet big bucks she will knock the critics' socks off. Go Meryl, Go Meryl, Go, Go, Go Meryl! Ok sorry, I got carried away.
Amy Adams also stars in this film as Julie Powell, the famous American blogger who gained notoriety for her attempt to cook every Julia Child recipe and document the results.
We like Amy, but we kinda cringe when actors team up too often just because they once had success as a duo. (Cough cough, Doubt (2008), cough cough. Ahem, excuse me)
Cinema Obsessed loves a good biopic, so this one definitely goes on the have-to-see list (doesn't everything?). Plus we love food, so a movie about a chef really tickles our fancy.

I hope they do the book justice! I read it years ago and it's really fun and funny. But Julia and Julie never meet (or if they did it was terse if I recall). Anyway, they really wrecked Shopaholic (I tell my friends it was loosely based on the book... an by loosely I mean NOT AT ALL) so I hope this one fares a bit better.
