Whip It!

Drew Barrymore puts on her director's cap (is there such a thing?) for the first time in the upcoming film Whip It!

Ellen Page stars as Bliss (do her characters ever get normal names?), a young girl who is pressured by her family to enter beauty pageants. Since Page loves to play awkward misfits, we know already that she detests the idea and joins a roller derby.

Sounds cute, and could be enjoyable. Barrymore stars as a teammate, and we'll also see actors like Juliette Lewis, Kristen Wiig (what ISN'T she in these days?), and Jimmy Fallon.

Wasn't this concept already done recently? We have LL Cool J in Rollerball (2002), Bow Wow in Roll Bounce (2005)... I guess they thought it was the ladies' turn.
