Tantalizing Trivia: Creature From the Black Lagoon

The director of Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954) decided it was illogical for bubbles to come out of the creature's costume while he swam underwater. He figured the creature would breathe through his gills, so seeing bubbles or air wouldn't make any sense. The professional diver in the suit had to hold his breath for up to 4 minutes to appease the director.

The costume was also equipped with rubber eyes fixed on the outside, so the diver could hardly see.

He also had to wear a diaper while filming, and they refused to feed him so he would "appear angry" in the shots. Just kidding.
