A guest post from The Tinseltown Review!

Law Abiding Citizen

Rated R: For strong bloody brutal violence and torture, a scene of rape, and pervasive language.

I had the pleasure of renting Law Abiding Citizen this Tuesday, the same day it was released, and I have to say what a rush! What an intense, well acted, revenge thriller! This is clearly one of those storylines where the line between good and evil blurs just a bit, and you are rooting for what should, for all intents and purposes, be the bad guy. No, I am not saying let’s all become vigilantes, or crime-fighting ninjas, and take it out on the corrupt justice system that has wronged us. It is just one of those films that provoke certain feelings and discussions, leaving the audience identifying with the supposed “mad man”.

Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler, mmm), at first, comes off as a grieving engineer who lost the lives of his wife and daughter one night during a home invasion. As the movie progresses ten years into the future, we find out that he is much more than that when an intricate plan begins to unravel on the city of Philadelphia put into place simply to teach the justice system a lesson. It reminds me of the Saw in the serial killer with a deeper agenda aspect, and just blows your mind how he is still killing people while locked away in prison. Props go to Jamie Foxx for his role as Nick Rice, Shelton's lawyer who becomes his unwilling student after not pushing for the maximum conviction he could possibly get, and going for the easy win. Shame shame!

As much I normally concur with the TTR, I disagree with this. Like Flightplan before it (most memorably in my mind anyhow) this was a very well thought out thriller... until you hit the twist. Then the film went to... excrement.

Aww well everyone has their own opinions. I can see where you're coming from though. I enjoyed its intensity, and found most people I know agreeing with that at the very least. They just hated the ending. Can't have everyone agreeing with me all the time, I guess, though it would be nice. Let's see if you do next time. Thanks for reading!

That's why we love movies, because you can't be wrong! It's so subjective :) To each his own, everyone gets something different out of a movie.

I've been waiting to see this movie, and now i'm even less certain of what to expect.
