Planet of the Apes Prequel!

Director Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist, 2008) is taking on the challenge of a Planet of the Apes prequel, entitled Rise of the Apes!

The tentative release date is June 2011.

Tell' em, IMDB: An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

So far, we've got an awesome cast (no Marky Mark). We get James Franco, John Lithgow (playing the baddie no doubt), Freida Pinto, and Don Cheadle!

My only reservation about this one is really the makeup effects. If this is a prequel set in present day, it means we're not gonna get any of our actors in ape make-up. I call it Mape-up. I'm hilarious.

Anyways, that was most of the fun, seeing peeps all dressed up. But shmeh, I'll still see this. Although we loved Burton's version, we'd still like to see what another director will come up with.

I just realized, it's not often I tag a post with both PREQUEL and REMAKE.

What do you think about another rehashing of the Apes franchise?

Here's what I read about it.
It's supposed to be a actual remake
of Conquest of The Planet of the Apes.
The rumors were that the title was going to be called Caesar.
A not set title.
All apes were going to be CGI.

You have to love rumors about movies.

Max - I read that stuff too but decided to just report what was on IMDB. I HOPE they're not all CGI!

IMDB usually isn't always 100 percent....but nothing on the web is anyways.
I am looking forward to the new version whatever it might turn out to be.
