Friends with Benefits... Another Rom-Com That Claims it's Different from Every Other Rom-Com... Suuuure...

I think my head might freakin' explode if I have to sit through another snore of a Rom-Com. I'm over-saturated. I just can't take it anymore. We bitch and moan about them constantly, and while some get it right, most just... STINK.

Friends with Benefits is an upcoming American romantic comedy film directed by Will Gluck and starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. The film features an ensemble cast which includes Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Patricia Clarkson... The story centers around two professionals that meet that are too busy to find a mate. They agree to have an intimate relationship with no strings attached. Things get complicated when the guy falls for the girl, who’s dating someone else. Wikipedia

I was readin' up on this upcoming groaner and I found a quote from Director Will Gluck. Here's what he has to say: "Every romantic comedy over the last twenty years is about the same thing, right? The two characters in this movie played by Justin and Mila are in this generation like you and me where they’ve grown up on romantic comedies. They comment about these romantic comedies throughout the movie, and as they go through their storyline, they realize that they’re in a romantic comedy story..."

Really? This is why your Rom-Com is different from all the others. Riiiiight... Guy meets girl, guy and girl overcome obstacle and discover they looove each other. Original.

I literally want to pull all my hair out, put it in an envelope and send it to Gluck. That, and a flaming bag of shit. Ok, I'm not that angry, but c'mooooon. How much am I expected to put up with?! Oh! Oh! I also read Gluck comparing this flick to Hepburn and Tracy classics. Yikes. You sure about that Gluck?

You guys like how I write Gluck with such anger? Can you hear it through your computer screen? I don't know Gluck personally, but I just feel the need to take it out on someone.

I am so very skeptical about this one. Me so tired of the same old formula. Please Hollywood - stimulate me like I've never been stimulated before! That's what she said.

Yeah. I was definitely hearing the anger. I'm also seconding your disapproval for this movie. Ugh times infinity.

The Masked Critic thinks that Rom-Coms are to movies, like First Person Shooters are to video games, in the sense that they are everywhere.

The Masked Critic also loves Mila Kunis.
