Eric Stoltz was cast as Marty McFly in Back to the Future (1985) after Michael J. Fox declined the part. Stoltz shot several scenes of the film, but was replaced by Fox when he finally agreed to take on the role.
Ouch, that must suck for an actor. You're second choice, but you get the role anyway. Yippee, a paycheck, recognition, the option for 2 sequels in the contract! No wait, the director's first choice is on board. You're out. No one will ever know. That suuuucks.

I had an ex-boyfriend obsessed with this movie so I knew this. Yeah that must have been a slap in the face for Stolz!!
Ouch!
But... if he had not been cut, he wouldn't have had time to film "Mask" and would have missed out on his golden globe.
Plus, think of all the 'rocky dennis' jokes that may have been lost.
