Battleship: The Movie Causes us to Shite Our Pants with Glee

Remember when Angie told y'all about Monopoly: The Movie? And then she went on a crazy tangent about games she would love to see made into flicks? While she was full of amazing ideas, she did leave out one major game we played growing up. Battleship. Yes Cin-Obs, it's happening. Battleship: The Movie.

Battleship is an upcoming 2012 science fiction naval war film based on the game of the same name. The film is being directed by Peter Berg and will be released by Universal Pictures. Starring in the film are Taylor Kitsch, Alexander SkarsgÄrd, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, and Liam Neeson. The film was originally planned to be released in 2011, but rescheduled to May 18, 2012. The film will involve the Navy's response to an alien invasion. Wikipedia

I would have been A-OK with a U-571ish take on the game, but Hollywood went and made it waaaaay wicked-er (?) by adding the element of aliens. 2 words. Fucking awesome. I don't care how irrelevent aliens are to this classic game, this movie is now gonna kick some major ass.

I know we tend to harp on Tinseltown for pumpin' out remake after remake after sequel after trilogy after book-to-movie... you get the point, but we're super excited about this one. Which reminds me, where the hell is the Where's Waldo movie we've been waiting for?! Sheeesh.

Anyways, Battleship's gonna rock my world... or boat... hmmm. Whatever.

Do the Cin-Obs agree?

This is the first time I strongly disagree with you girls.

As of right now, I am not even remotely looking forward to this movie. I will however reserve my judgement until I see it.

I'm just not exactly sure how you can make a movie that is actually based on a game (not just by name, but by the game itself?) To me this suggests alot of problems:

1) Since when do we only own 5 ships?
2) How many wars have really been fought 1 turn at a time.
3) Is the navy actually forced to keep their ships within a 10 by 10 grid in the sea? And will the aliens have to keep their ships in a similar 10 by 10 grid?

I would put my ships next to each other to fool those damn aliens.

MC - it's ok, we love you anyway.

JRL - excellent points. I don't expect the aliens to play by Milton Bradley's outdated rules.

Anon - you made me larf.
