Smurfs are Coming!

Columbia Pictures is getting the blue ball rolling on the Smurfs movie! Wait... that doesn't sound right. Ok, the movie is in the works.

Of course it will be CGI, we see no other way this could be done. Although live action could be bloody hilarious, given the right studio and actors. But I'm getting off track. The reality is that Smurfs will be animated, and probably a very successful family film. Look for it in theatres December 17, 2010.

It was originally intended to be released in 2005, but apparently Hollywood is a very complicated place, and it has been delayed. Some of the original voices are coming back for the film... the ones who are alive anyway. I'm sure the studios know they will need to throw in some contemporary, recognizable voices to make the dough.

We're hoping this is a musical. Singing Smurfs will sell movie tickets. Kids and families eat that crap up. And so do we here at Cinema Obsessed.
