The Inbetweeners Movie

There are several films which have successfully crossed the pond and now it is up to The Inbetweeners to make an impression state-side. The idea has already been taken to tinsel town and the television programme is being adapted for the US market; back in March MTV ordered a full season of the US version of The Inbetweeners.

For those unfamiliar with the British television programme, there have been three series with plot lines focusing on a socially awkward group of four boys. The comedy series documented the lives of the boys through six-form and the film follows the characters’ holiday to Malia after their A-Levels. Simon, Neil, Jay and Will head to Malia, Crete for sun, sea and most importantly clunge. The film catalogues their escapades in the resort as they meet girls and experience the underbelly of the party town.

The media have a love hate relationship with the film, some see it as condescending others think that the film comments of the idiocy of youth. For me, it is just a bit of fun. Of course there were moments during the film when I couldn’t bear to watch, but the cringe worthy nature of the group of boys is the reason the series was so successful.

Having broken the box office record for a UK comedy by taking £13 million in its opening weekend, the film has proved a massive success with the Brits. But whether the quintessentially British nature of both the film and the television programme will translate to the American market remains to be seen. People in Britain are already lamenting the loss of the programme and will avidly await replays so that they can put their Freeview recorders into action.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is an American television series that was broadcast on NBC from September 22, 1964, to January 15, 1968. It follows the exploits of two secret agents, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, who work for a fictitious secret international espionage and law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E., whose letters stand for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. Wikipedia

George Clooney will be starring in this remake set for release next year. I wish there was something exciting I could say about it, but the whole spy/FBI/special ops stuff has sooooo been done. And is it just me or does Clooney go for these roles all the time? I dunno, I lost interest in George after O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which, P.S. is an AWESOME flick!

I haven't seen the original TV series, but I did find this majorly slick picture. Check it:

Any Cin-Obs seen this series? Anyone think George can fill these super-duper hunky shoes?

Delightful Dialogue: Journey to the Center of the Earth

Trevor: Hey, look at all the schist.

Sean: What?

Trevor: It's a metamorphic rock. Green schist, white schist, mica-garnet schist...

Sean: Oh. Schist.

Delightful Dialogue: The Flintstones

Wilma: I cannot believe you just sat there and let them walk out on us.

Fred: At least I can walk around the house in my underwear again.

Wilma: And that is more important to you than 30 years of friendship?

Fred: It is on a hot day.

Dark Shadows... Burton's Back!

We all know how hot monsters are nowadays. Vampires, werewolves, witches, warlocks, and so on and so on. This upcoming gothic flick caught my attention for a couple reasons:

1. Tim Burton. That is all.
2. I heart monsters... especially monsters with 6-packs.

We know Tim employs an array of peeps for nearly all his films, so it's no surprise that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter will both star. Also appearing is Jackie Earle Haley and Michelle Pfeiffer. Oh happy day!

Good cast, we're down with the Burtster. All haters can take a moment now to bend over, gently put your head between your legs and munch your own assholes. Ok, that was hateful, but seriously, go munch a log.

Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. The show was created by Dan Curtis, who tells of a dream he had in which a girl takes a long train ride to visit a large mansion. The story 'bible', which was written by Art Wallace, does not mention any supernatural elements. It was unprecedented in daytime television when ghosts were introduced about six months after it began.

The series became hugely popular when, a year into its run, vampire Barnabas Collins (played by Jonathan Frid) appeared. Dark Shadows also featured werewolves, ghosts, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel (both into the past and into the future), and a parallel universe. A small company of actors each played many roles; as actors came and went, some characters were played by more than one actor. Wikipedia

Here's a taste of the original show - it's amazeballs, you'll see!

Campfire Classic: Land of the Lost

Although this movie bombed harder than... umm.. a bomb (shut up)... we still loved it. It was great in its own cheesey crappy way.

Campfire Classic is a segment we love, but it doesn't come up too often. So consider it a special Valentine's Day treat. I have no idea why, just because.

Enjoy Dr. Rick Marshall as he plucks the banjo and sings a little diddy around the campfire, whilst a horrific blood-sucking bug gets the better of him.

Delightful Dialogue: Starsky and Hutch

Hutch: Okay, let me ask you a question, which one do you want cause we're gonna stick to this.

Starsky: I've always had a thing for blondes.

Hutch: Good, cause I'll take anything.

Emma Stone's a Busy Gal!

Thanks to a tip from Cin-Ob The Masked Critic about Stone's involvement with the Spidey reboot, we thought we'd check out Emma's other upcoming projects.

So firstly, Emma was rumoured to be playing Mary-Jane in the prequel (of sorts) Spiderman flick. A little googling tells us it's been announced officially - she'll be playing Gwen Stacy, a previous Peter Parker love interest (played by Bryce Dallas Howard in Spiderman 3). That sounds more legitimate, since I don't think anyone would believe Emma as a young Kirsten Dunst. But I highly doubt that's what they're going for, since - interesting tidbit - the new Peter Parker will be played by Andrew Garfield, who recently starred in The Social Network. These aren't exactly look-alikes to the original cast, so I assume they're just starting over, so to speak.

The film is supposed to be released in July 2012, but with all the trouble the film had getting off the ground, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Emma Stone is also rumoured to be participating in the new 21 Jump Street movie, also coming in 2012. Other possible cast-mates include Jonah Hill, and no-names Jason Sheppard (you don't know him, trust me), Zef Balbona (awesome name, don't know him, but he looks like a Cullen), and Harry Cook (who?).

An undercover police unit consisting of young looking officers infiltrate high schools to control youth crime  [IMDB]

I'll watch this movie, although I didn't really watch the show. I'll just be hoping J-Depp makes a cameo. God knows he won't cuz he's too busy being cool over in France to relive his youth a little bit. Ok that's unfair, I have no idea if he'll show up for a cameo. But you know who will? Richard Grieco. He's not up to much these days.

Delightful Dialogue: Coneheads

Ronnie: H-hi, Mr. Conehead.

Beldar Conehead: I find you unacceptable!

Ronnie: Yes, sir.

Beldar Conehead: If I did not fear incarceration from human authority figures, I would terminate your life functions by applying sufficient pressure to your blunt skull so as to force its collapse!

Ronnie: Th-thank you.

Smarter Than The Average Bear: Yogi's Coming!

Holy hell, this is really happening! Thanks to fellow LAMB The Movie Brothers we found this teaser for the Yogi Bear movie!

Dan Aykroyd is voicing Yogi, and Justin Timberlake will be Boo Boo! Aww... random but cute. We also get some Anna Faris, so hey - we'll see this. *cough cough on DVD cough*

Plot? A documentary filmmaker travels to Jellystone Park to shoot a project and soon crosses paths with Yogi Bear, his sidekick Boo-Boo, and Ranger Smith. Thanks IMDB.

Let me guess... crazy bear shenanigans (ie waterskiing, as seen in the trailer below), everyone learning lessons about tolerance, friendship and not stealing picnic baskets. Sounds like wholesome family fun. Oh yeah and it's in 3D.

What do you think of this Hanna Barbera inspired flick?

In Today's Green News...

Here we have Canadian heart-throb Ryan Reynolds in costume for his role in The Green Lantern, coming in 2011. Ooooh evil stare and skin tight outfit! Love it lotsly.

Here we have Seth Rogen and Jay Chou on set of Rogen's new action flick The Green Hornet, also coming in 2011.

Here they are again, experimenting with what will probably be our hero's vehicle.
And it looks BADASS!

And now Christoph Waltz as the baddie in The Green Hornet, Chudnofsky, with a giant mofo gun. That was a great description wasn't it? I'M LAZY! Use your eyes!

And let's not forget the rumours flying all over the internet about Mark Ruffalo as the new HULK in the upcoming Avengers movie! So far it's just speculation, but he's apparently at the top of a short list to play the green machine we know and love. It's not the weirdest choice. I mean, Edward Norton played the Hulk, so it's not like it HAS to be some macho action star. Norton's kinda prissy, so I don't see why Ruffs couldn't do it! Isn't that the whole point? He goes from normal guy to CRAZY GREEN WACKO! RAAAWWWR!!!

Hank Azaria as Gargamel, seen in the streets filming SMURFS!

Hank Azaria and the crew of the new Smurfs movie were seen filming on the streets of Manhattan! YAY I love me a good sneak peak!

Looks like Hanky's gonna make an amazingly silly villain!

Check out cameos here by Tim Gunn and NPH!
