So CinemaObsessed.com took a little road trip last night, out to the Drive-In Movie. Yep, we kicked it old school. A double feature of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince and The Hangover. A duo we could NOT resist. And wow, what a duo indeed.
Harry Potter And The Half Blood PrinceWe have yet to be SO into a Harry Potter movie. We were completely sucked into this one from the beginning, and all the reviews we'd read previously were bang on - the film is darker and more adult. That's for sure.
We finally see Ron Weasley getting some action (or snogging as the Brits say), and we also finally feel some REAL heart-break from Hermione. The acting is very much improving amongst the young actors. But of course the veterans (Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Michael Gambon) were brilliant, and Snape was EXTRA creepo.
We won't ruin the plot for you's guys who haven't seen/read it, but we just about crapped when it ended. Not only did it leave us COMPLETELY hanging plot-wise, but we felt like it was only half a movie! And that's saying alot, since it was already 2 and a half hours. The audience can get so into this story that time simply doesn't exist. Swear to god, it totally happened.
The HangoverThis one was brilliantly written and acted. The ensemble was hilarious, but we must point out Zach Galifianakis. He stole the movie, no questions asked. His character was bizarre, socially inept, awkward, lonely, and a little scary. He has the best one-liners in the film, and was the one the audience was always watching. We applaud him, seriously, and we hope to see him in more films. We think his career in comedy is just taking off.
The plot works backwards, in a sense, with the characters dealing with the consequences of the night before, before even knowing what went down. They slowly put some pieces together, but it almost doesn't matter. You're SO with them on their journey that you almost don't care about what got them in this mess. But you ARE hoping they find their missing friend, which is the driving force behind the whole movie. The most brilliant thing were the end credits, believe it or not. Every question you're left with about how everything happened the night before is answered by the photo slide-show during the credits. Genius.
So basically, both of these movies lived up to their hype for us. Both well deserved summer hits that we will be seeing multiple times each. Let's not forget who you're dealing with here. We're Cinema Obsessed. Won't you join us?
