The Road

While watching Nothing But Trailers the other day, we came across an amazing one... The Road... starring Viggo Mortensen, Guy Pearce, and Charlize Theron.

Mortensen plays a man who is travelling with his young son, after a non-specific apocolyptic event has left most of the world dead, and everything in ruins. The others who survive are very hostile, and the man and his son are looking for salvation.

The Road is based on a 2006 novel of the same name. Of course it is. Sigh.

Regardless, we love apocolyptic, disaster stuff. We have problems.

I'm really looking forward to this one, although I'm a bit worried about what Hollywood might to to the book. It's an excellent book, although it's extremely bleak and grim (same author as No Country for Old Men, and the Road was an even darker book). Maybe they put everything in the trailer but there's really very little action in the book. Charlize Theron's character seems to have a larger role in the trailer than in the book. Nothing against her, but the core dynamic in the book is the father and son. Hope they don't mess with that.

I read online that they were expanding the mother's role for Charlize Theron, but she would mostly appear in flashbacks. We'll see!

That's good news. If they beef up her role as part of adding more character backstory, that might enhance the story.
