Chantale's Bedtime Rotation

It's time to get personal. We've shared so much movie lovin' with all you Cin-Obs, but today I want to let you in a little more. I need to tell you about my movie bedtime rotation.

Some of you share in the obsession, or you at least know someone who is obsessed with movies. It's the kind of obsession that usually starts at a young age and progressively gets worse (or better depending on your perspective). Some movies hold a nostalgic power over you; watching them brings on overwhelming feelings of tingliness and giddiness. Depending on when you grew up or what you were exposed to, each person's collection of nostalgic flicks will vary.

We were lucky to have been exposed to a wide variety of movies spanning several decades and genres. My bedtime rotation consists of 5-6 titles at a time and usually lasts for about 4 months. That's right... I watch the same 5-6 titles before bed for 4 entire months. So here they are, in no particular order:

Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

I rented this 'chick flick' when it first came out on DVD. I had heard great things from friends who had seen it in theaters, so naturally, I was excited to see what all the fuss was about. Little did I know, this movie wouldn't stray more than 2 feet from my DVD player for several years.

Why I love it so much: Woman power, unpredictable plotline, set in Italy, Sandra Oh.

Why I rewatch it: There's no major conflict in the story and it's backed by a super cutesy charming score!

Death Becomes Her (1992)

I watched this dark comedy as a child. There I was, still using my allowance to buy sody pops and watchin' a woman get a hole blown through her stomach. It was love at first watch, and remains my favie Meryl Streep movie!

Why I love it so much: Bitch fights, fat crazy version of Goldie Hawn 'siempre viva live forever!'

Why I rewatch it: I know the dialogue, scene for scene. This allows me to lay in bed, comfy cozy, and with my eyes closed, still 'watch' the movie. Sick, I know.

Some Kind of Wonderful (1987)

I actually didn't see this John Hughes gem until I was all grown up! Although it doesn't hold that nostalgic pull for me, it has made the rotation. It's a solid repeat.

Why I love it so much: It's a super cheesefest, young Eric Stolz,Watts and her love of drums and Keith.

Why I rewatch it: It's pretty brainless, but that's exactly what I need to unwind to! Also, can't get enough of the 80s feel.
The Breakfast Club (1985)

Can you tell I'm a John Hughes fan? I discovered this classic on my own at a young age. Like most fans, I was presented with characters I could relate to. I could listen to them talk and talk (which is essentially all the movie consists of) and get completely absorbed in the teenage banter.

Why I love it so much: It's classic, amazing dialogue, John Benders rants, Emilioooooo!

Why I rewatch it: It's a wonderful romp through tortured teenage ramblings. It's relatable... everyone's been a teenager at one time or another.

Amadeus (1984)

Angie introduced this gemmy gem to me a few months back. I'm still undecided if this was a good thing or a bad thing. I'm obsessed. Reeeeeally obsessed. I just can't seem to get enough. Needless to say, I'm jazzed it's winning in our current poll!

Why I love it so much: Rockin' soundtrack/score, crazy wigs, men in tights, frilly sleeves, Mozart's laugh.

Why I rewatch it: Mozart, played by Tom Hulce was one of the most charismatic characters I've ever seen! I'm also totally enamored (in a completely non-sexual way) with Antonio Salieri. He's the most amazing crazy old man ever.

I'm almost at the 4 month mark. I'll update you all with my new rotation. I know you're all dying to know what comes next... *shifty eyes*
