It's Kind of a Funny Story - Mental Illness? Really?

Coming in September of this year is the movie adaptation of the young-adult novel, It's Kind of a Funny Story.

IMDB, enlighten us!  A clinically depressed teenager gets a new start after he checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward.

The film stars Zack Galifianakis, Emma Roberts, Lauren Graham, Zoë Kravitz, Jeremy Davies, and Keir Gilchrist, among others. Who? Yeah I dunno, but I wanted to be thorough.

This shows some promise as a dramatic film, but it's hard for me to get excited. Depressed teenagers? Yeesh, I see enough of those on the bus everyday with their emo bangs, wool caps in summer, stripey gloves, and facial scowling.

Although we're not fans of movies that are designed to make you feel like caca, we still watch 'em. This one will surely have some light-heartedness to it, some relationship development, some healing of mental illness and discovering that life ain't so bad and it's actually worth living. SOUNDS LIKE A BLAST!

On another note - boy oh boy, Z-Gal has really exploded onto the scene after The Hangover (2009). We all know he's funny, but do you think he's capable of these dramatic roles?

TRAILER ACTION!

I think Galifianakis is hysterical, but with this kind of a depressing storyline I hope he can pull of this sort of Robert De Niro role (from "Awakenings") and actually create a character that isn't hilariously creepy or awkward. However because of his ability to create an awkwardness in his roles perhaps he can really dig deep into this drama and make us cry a little.

Little C - couldn't agree more! I hope this role is a mix of serious acting ability with the silliness we all love about him!

Also - Awakenings... awesome title drop!
