Nevermore, Nevermore... John Cusack is Poe!

The Raven is in pre-production, and it's official! John Cusack will be playing Edgar Allan Poe!

A fictionalized account of the last days of Edgar Allan Poe's life, in which the poet is in pursuit of a serial killer whose murders mirror those in the writer's stories. [IMDB]

Since EAP died in 1849, we can only assume this will be a crazy awesome period film, complete with bowler hats, walking canes, waistcoats, corsets, and tortured writers. Wait, scratch that last one, although that will be awesome too. It seems the story will be fiction, but we're always hoping to learn a little somethin', and we're sure they'll throw in some factual deets about Poe.

The Raven is set to be released in 2011, and no word yet on other cast mates. Although a little raven birdie told me my sweety-muffin-lovey-dovey Ewan McGregor was in talks for the lead role, but it fell through for whatever reason. Damnit! Nobody rocks a period film like Ewan.

But whatever, John Cusack will be acceptable. Loved him in The Road to Wellville (1994). Great period film.

And now, Christopher Walken reading Poe's The Raven.

Hmmm. Sounds like it might be okay. I'm a big Poe fan, but not really a fan of John. I'm sure I'll see it, though.

That plot summary sounds familiar... like too familiar. Are you sure they haven't done this movie before? Lol.
