This time Spurlock is taking on corporate America, consumerism, and branding. Can’t wait! IMDB says it will be “A documentary about branding, advertising and product placement that is financed and made possible by brands, advertising and product placement.”
Amazing! He’s exposing the truth about the world of buy-this-buy-this-buy-this, by using the technique of buy-this! Genius, pure genius. We absolutely love his narration, his way of explaining things to us, his interviews, and his sense of humour. What’s not to love?
Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? (2008) was amazing, but it really made me grit my teeth and get angry at the Middle East. I couldn’t help it. The part where Morgan stood in the street talking to his camera, doing absolutely nothing, and the people starting screaming at him because he was white, throwing shit, and pushing and threatening him, made me wanna bash in my tv and go - "He's trying to teach about the plight of your country! You're mad at him and you don't even know what he's saying!" *tears hair out*
This one seems to be a little more light-hearted and fun, although I’m sure it’ll expose some sales tactics that will astound us. In a good way AND a bad way.
How much did you love Super Size Me? I don’t know about you, but it’s a documentary I could watch over and over again. There aren’t many like that, and Christopher Guest movies don’t really count. The McMovie didn’t have the intended effect on me because I only ever want a Big Mac when I watch it. Is that weird? It’s supposed to gross me out but it gives me the mccraving.

Critically panned, poorly received I'm Still Here has quickly become one of our all-time favie movie experiences. It was absolutely brilliant, so reading awful critiques of it is hard to swallow. We pride ourselves on being movie enthusiasts, not movie critics. In creating this blog, we have discovered fellow Cin-Obs who cherish and appreciate movies just like we do. We're here today to let you know - If you have not yet seen this movie, please watch it immediately.
Here's what we believe happened - Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix were trying to do something that hasn't really been done before. They made a movie that we all starred in. We all remember watching clips on Entertainment Tonight and TMZ about Joaquin's crazy spiral into lunacy. When we finally experienced the movie from our couch, we felt like we were a part of it. As huge Joaquin fans, we chatted regularly about our love muffin's physical appearance and potential nervous breakdown. We were scared. To see it come together in a wicked mockumentary was amazing, to say the least.
When we started hearing whispers about Casey Affleck's camera crew following Joaquin around, we were suddenly overjoyed and completely psyched to see what the project was really about. The rest of the world seemed to turn on them. Everyone screamed 'HOAX' and almost immediately dismissed the mockumentary.
We only just watched this gem last month and have since watched it about 10 more times. Joaquin's portrayal of himself in a parallel universe in which he turns to drugs, alcohol and rap is beyond brilliant. The flick is packed full of hilarity with some seriously profound moments sprinkled around along the way.
Here is an example of one of those moments. It moved us, it made us laugh, it made us rewatch, over and over again!

We beg you, don't listen to movie critics. They've got pretentions jammed so far up their assholes, they don't know which way is up. Enjoy the genius that is this movie and soak up Joaquin's performance. It is an absolute shame people didn't 'get' this movie. But we sure did.

We've been talking about Catfish (2010) for weeks. We've mulled over possible plot points, its credibility, its impossibly hard to live up to comparisons to Hitchcock's work. We had no idea what we were about to watch, which made it that much more exciting.
Within the first few minutes we were sold on the fact that it is indeed a true story. We believe it firmly now. Fo sheez. Anyhoo, they had our attention right away with a story that wasn't even featured in the trailers. We initially expected to watch a story about online dating, but we realized quickly that the story was much bigger than that.
Nev (pronounced Neev) is a photographer in NYC who forms an unlikely long-distance relationship with an 8 year old artist named Abby. Abby paints one of Nev's published photographs and over time, Nev begins sending Abby more photos for her to paint. It is Abby's older half-sister Megan that begins the romantic relationship with Nev after the bond between Abby and her family has been established. The romance between Megan and Nev intensifies. Nev (along with the crew) travel many miles to meet her in person but things don't exactly turn out like Nev had hoped.
Now I really can't say much more. After watching the trailers you will definitely draw some of your own conclusions about the general direction of the film and you will be partially right. But you really can't quite predict what happens. It's intense. And like we said, we firmly believe it is REAL. If it wasn't, the actors deserve Oscars, because no independent film actors have ever been this good.
We won't urge you to run to theaters to see this one, but we do urge you to watch it. Period. You won't be sorry.
P.S. For the love of all things holy, do NOT go to Wikipedia to read up on Catfish. Those effers will ruin the whole damn thing for you.
