The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is an American television series that was broadcast on NBC from September 22, 1964, to January 15, 1968. It follows the exploits of two secret agents, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, who work for a fictitious secret international espionage and law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E., whose letters stand for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. Wikipedia
George Clooney will be starring in this remake set for release next year. I wish there was something exciting I could say about it, but the whole spy/FBI/special ops stuff has sooooo been done. And is it just me or does Clooney go for these roles all the time? I dunno, I lost interest in George after O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which, P.S. is an AWESOME flick!
I haven't seen the original TV series, but I did find this majorly slick picture. Check it:
Any Cin-Obs seen this series? Anyone think George can fill these super-duper hunky shoes?

Dan Radcliffe in The Woman in Black
(poster leaves a little to be desired, n'est pas?)
After a seriously hard-core Twihard came onto our site, missed our sense of humour entirely, searched the names of every Twilight cast member and left angry defensive comments on any post mentioning them, while at the same time singing the praises of Daniel Radcliffe and his oh-so-serious after-Potter career, I thought I'd take a look at his resumé to see what he's got coming after Harry Potter wraps up. (run-on sentence ftw!)
I was intrigued by the title The Woman in Black, and a small pic of Raddy in a cool outfit.
"The story follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, his unease growing when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black. Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the Woman in Black on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true identity." [Wikipedia]
Oooooh! Ghost story? Check. Haunted house? Check. Period film? Check. Post-pubescent Dan-Rad looking mighty cute? Check. I'm in like Flint, baby. We have a while to wait though, since it's only being released in 2012, but I'm totally ready for a movie to scare the hell outta me. Haven't been genuinely scared by a movie since The Ring. Ok The Grudge too. Ok so both Paranormal Activity movies made me weep like a lil girl. Whatever. I like scary movies, big whoop, wanna fight about it?
Apparently this movie was already made in the 80s, and it was based on a book, so it loses points for originality, but the teaser claims it's the most chilling ghost story of our time. Why haven't I heard of it before? All the better, that way I'll be surprised.
Do you think Dan will have a good career post-Potter?

Jack the Giant Killer
OOOOhhhhh Angie - McGregs is comin' out with what sounds like a goodie!! Because he's your boyfriend, I thought I'd share this upcoming with you and the rest of the Cin-Obs!
A modern day fairy tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened, as a young farmer leads an expedition into the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess. IMDB
Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy and Stanley Tucci are all set to star. AMAZING! Not only a great cast, but a fantastic premise. Who doesn't love a fairly tale?!
Makes me think of that old Mickey Mouse cartoon.. ya know the one.. the Jack and the Beanstalk one where Mickey and his fam have to thinly slice the beans for their din-dins. Then he goes up the beanstalk and bounces off some Jello then gets chased by the giant. That shit was awesome. If this comes close to that cartoon, I'll be happy.
I am also realizing how much I love super gigantic, oversized things AND miniaturized things. What is that? There's no happy medium for me. Either XL or teeny weeny. There.. I've just set you all up for TONS of comments...
Are we all happy about Jack the Giant Killer? Yes? Excellent.

Arabian Nights... It's About to Get Historical Up in Here!!
Get ready for an epic movie of legendary proportions... I have no idea what I'm saying. But seriously, read this then tell me you're not interested/excited:
This is a 3D film adaption of the historical text One Thousand and One Nights, which is alternately known in the West as Arabian Nights. The text is a compilation of stories from the Middle East that date back to the period between the 8th and 13th century AD. The first English translation of the text appeared in 1706.
The 2011 film adaptation will be directed by Chuck Russell whose previous credits include being director of The Scorpion King and executive producer of Collateral. Mahalo
Sweeeet. Starring Anthony Hopkins as Pharotu, Dwayne 'formerly known as The Rock' Johnson as Sinbad and Liam Hemsworth as Ali Baba, how could this be bad?
There is something about this combo of actors and the story that make me all tingly inside. I got especially giddy when I read this:
The 2011 film version will feature prominent characters from the original text such as Sinbad, Aladdin, and Scheherazade. An interview on the MTV Movies Blog with lead actor Liam Hemsworth indicates that rather than focusing on the overall frame story of Arabian Nights where Queen Scheherazade must tell a Persian king 1001 tales in order to keep from being killed, this film version will center on one of the specific tales told by Scheherazade. MTV
Oh HELL YES. We're in.

"I try to believe in as many as six impossible things before breakfast. Count them, Alice. One, there are drinks that make you shrink. Two, there are foods that make you grow. Three, animals can talk. Four, cats can disappear. Five, there is a place called Underland. Six, I can slay the Jabberwocky."

Dark Shadows... Burton's Back!
We all know how hot monsters are nowadays. Vampires, werewolves, witches, warlocks, and so on and so on. This upcoming gothic flick caught my attention for a couple reasons:
1. Tim Burton. That is all.
2. I heart monsters... especially monsters with 6-packs.
We know Tim employs an array of peeps for nearly all his films, so it's no surprise that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter will both star. Also appearing is Jackie Earle Haley and Michelle Pfeiffer. Oh happy day!
Good cast, we're down with the Burtster. All haters can take a moment now to bend over, gently put your head between your legs and munch your own assholes. Ok, that was hateful, but seriously, go munch a log.
Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. The show was created by Dan Curtis, who tells of a dream he had in which a girl takes a long train ride to visit a large mansion. The story 'bible', which was written by Art Wallace, does not mention any supernatural elements. It was unprecedented in daytime television when ghosts were introduced about six months after it began.
The series became hugely popular when, a year into its run, vampire Barnabas Collins (played by Jonathan Frid) appeared. Dark Shadows also featured werewolves, ghosts, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel (both into the past and into the future), and a parallel universe. A small company of actors each played many roles; as actors came and went, some characters were played by more than one actor. Wikipedia
Here's a taste of the original show - it's amazeballs, you'll see!

Snow White and the Huntsman
Ohhh Hollywood. Here we go again with the remakes. While I bitch and moan, I can't help but be slightly intrigued. If this live-action take on the classic fairy tale is in the same vein as The Brothers Grimm (2005), then I'll be hap-hap-happy!
Rumoured to play Snow White is our personal favie Kristen Stewart. Ms. Misery herself. I'm waiting for the backlash.. let me have it Cin-Obs - I know there are a few of you who very much disagree with our opinion of the one dimensional miserable actress.
Snow White and the Huntsman is an upcoming 2012 American fantasy adventure film directed by Rupert Sanders, written by Evan Daugherty, that is currently in pre-production. A huntsman is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her but instead he chooses to let her go and the two are evidently chained together for part of the movie as they make their escape. Wikipedia
I am mighty excitey to see Charlize as the big baddie. She played one hell of a baddie in Monster (2003).. something tells me she'll be a little purtier in this one as the Evil Queen.
Looking forward to it. I do love me a fantasy flick!

Tantalizing Trivia: The Ring
This movie scared the poopers out of us. No joke. We still have trouble watching it.
To make matters even worse, I read some trivia about The Ring (2002) that creeped me out even more. The filmmakers inserted subliminal images from "the tape" all throughout the movie. Sometimes at cuts between scenes, other times at pivotal or scary moments. A frame here, a frame there. Too quick to really notice. But it explains why I'm always messing myself even though nothing is really happening on screen.
Grreeeaaatt. So this movie didn't just scare me on the surface, it scared me deep down in my subconcious.

"The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships, motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then, one day... I got in."

New Buffy Movie = Me Not Happy
Ok, so Chantale saved this title in drafts, but I'm stealing it from her because I agree with it.
The internet is buzzin' about the new Buffy movie, and we're anti-excitey. Don't touch it! Mostly we're pissy-wissy because the filmmakers are just jumpin' on the recent vampwagon.
It's still in development at this point, but Joss Whedon is on board. At least this revamp (get it?) has that going for it.
Who would you like to see play the Buff? I'm sure they'll choose some hot blonde young starlet who looks good in a tank top. OR my guess is they could also go in a different direction, and instead of making her a bimbo, make Buffy into a brooding sarcastic brunette or something, à la Zooey Deschanel.
What do you guys think of this remake? Should they remake entirely, or make this a continuation/sequel? Maybe Buffy had a babyslayer and is now training her to carry on the legacy? I should get paid for this.
UPDATE: Mr. Mike D of Cultural Compulsive Disorder sent us an article from Slash Film which informs us that Jossy is NOT in fact involved. Does this change anyone's outlook on the upcoming flick? Read the article here!

Memorable Monologue: How the Grinch Stole Christmas
"That's what it's all about, isn't it? That's what it's always been about. Gifts, gifts... gifts, gifts, gifts, gifts, gifts. You wanna know what happens to your gifts? They all come to me. In your garbage. You see what I'm saying? In your garbage. I could hang myself with all the bad Christmas neckties I found at the dump. And the avarice...
The avarice never ends! 'I want golf clubs. I want diamonds. I want a pony so I can ride it twice, get bored and sell it to make glue.' Look, I don't wanna make waves, but this whole Christmas season is... stupid, stupid, stupid!"

Scintillating Scene: The Grudge
Here's a Scintillating Scene a.k.a. Fill My Pants With Liquid BM Scene. Excuse my vulgarity, it's just that my bowels let go every time I watch this movie. You all wanted to know that, I know.
So here it is folks, the clip Ang just talked me out of finishing. At the 2 minute mark my computer made a sound and my heart rate accelerated so quickly I had to take my pulse. Then at the 5:00 mark Angie turned to me and asked: "Do you like what you're doing to yourself right now? You really want to be watching that before you go to bed?". Good call Ang. Fright Night Remake... The Vampire Craze Continues...
A remake of Fright Night (1985)? Really? Well... Aiiight, we're in!
Charlie is a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire. Toni Collette plays the teen's disbelieving mom, who falls under the vampire's spell. Peter Vincent (David Tennant) is a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he's less than helpful.

While we often rag on Hollywood for churning out remakes and sequels, you can ususally find us in the theater opening night. What can we say - we're movie whores.
Anton Yelchin is set to star as Charley Brewster in this upcoming comedy/horror. We recently got to know Anton in his role as Chekov in the new Star Trek (2009). He is super cool in our books and we're excited to see what he does as Charley. We're sure he won't disappoint!
What do you guys think? Are you sick of the vampire premise? Do you think this movie deserves a remake? Will you see it?
