Movie Mistake: Rat Race

I quite enjoyed Rat Race (2001). Not a bad comedy, a few chuckles and LOVED Kathy Bates as the crazy squirrel lady.

enterfilm1 compiled a bunch of mistakes from this flick. Good eye enterfilm1. Good eye. So kick back, relax, and begin the inevitable rumblings about how the filmmakers didn't catch some of the boo-boos.

Movie Mistake: Lethal Weapon

I recently re-watched Lethal Weapon (1987) and I realized something I love a lot about movies... and that is to notice movie mistakes that you never noticed before.

Usually that happens the first time you watch a movie, but it can also happen even though it is the 15th time you are seeing a film.

While watching Lethal Weapon, in this scene, which is great by the way, Mel Gibson tries to prevent this suicidal guy from jumping off the ledge of the building. The specific scene starts at the 1:50 mark, and watch as Riggs at one point handcuffs the guy and makes him jump with him.

The revealing mistake is seen at 4:33 to 4:36. The handcuffs are not handcuffs, but a mear string attached around their wrists, that just snaps off.

It's great!

Movie Mistake: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Oooohhh I love finding new movie goofs on this here "net", as the kids are callin' it.

Check out this wonderful compilation full of TMNT eff-ups. All very minor, but still entertaining.

And if you're mad that I'm ruining part of the movie magic by exposing the boo-boos, then don't watch. To be a movie buff you gotta be thick-skinned and learn to accept that it's all fiction, for entertainment purposes. It's not real.

Movie Mistake: The Lord of the Rings

Quick, Cameraman! Cut away from the falling sword! And let's fire the prop guy while we're at it!

Blink and you'll miss this mistake, but it still made me have a slight tee-hee moment.

Movie Mistake: North By Northwest

In North By Northwest (1959), nobody really explained to this kid how acting works... because he seems to know exactly what's about to happen. Watch the extra, the kid in the dark blue shirt on the right, at the 19 second mark. Cover your ears! That gun's about to fire!

Movie Mistake: The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption (1994) took place in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Yet somehow, while this prison guard is on the crapper, he's reading a Jughead comic from 1993.

Movie Mistake Compilation

Here we have a lovely mash-up of some great movie goofs. It's nice to see live-action eff-ups. Some of these we've talked about before, some we haven't. Some we agree are mistakes, some we think are so insignificant they should be left alone. But we'll let you Cin-Obs decide!

Be sure to check out the Movie Mistakes section on the right sidebar for more!

Movie Mistake: The Ring

She must have whirled that chair around at deadly speeds, because he was OK a second ago!

Movie Mistake: Starship Troopers

Who bleeds BEFORE being struck by a sharp object? Apparently Jake Busey bleeds in anticipation of a knife attack. He must be really sensitive. That's DEFINITELY not squad leader material.

Movie Mistake: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The Harry Potter movies are notorious for being full of mistakes, so we know we've given you some movie-goofs from this series before.

And here's another!

Nice mic-packs kids!

Movie Mistake: Chasing Amy

Kevin Smith is a geeeenius... no doubt. We hate to point out an error. It hurts us to the core.

Oh well! Here goes!

In Chasing Amy (1997) there's a quick moment in the movie where there is a visible burn mark on the film. This isn't on the characters or in the scene, it's an actual burn on the physical film.

It's not that surprising when you remember that Kev writes, directs, and EDITS his own movies.... and smokes A LOT of cigarettes.

Movie Mistake: Twilight

Apparently Forks High School is a breeding ground for paparazzi and film crews with giant boom mikes.

Movie Mistake: Spy Kids

If I was getting ready in the mirror and saw a creepo with a camera behind me, I'd freak the hell out. She looks pretty calm.

Movie Mistake: Titanic

We're very sorry to those out there who considered Titanic (1997) as their favourite movie. We hate bursting the bubble that movies aren't perfect. Trust us... it's a hard concept for us to deal with too.

So when Jack comes strolling into the fancy rich folk's area, the audience gets a shot from his point of view. Look closer. His point of view includes the reflection of some camera equipment.

Movie Mistake: Harry Potter

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Geeeez... Hogwarts is letting in much older students these days. And with camera equipment too. The place just ain`t like it used to be...

Movie Mistake: The Fifth Element

As much as we looove and cherish a film, we're always up for learning about where the filmmakers goofed up. As is the case with The Fifth Element (1997).

Oh yeah, Leeloo... you're SOOOO tough and strong. I don't buy it for a minute. If you're such a badass action chick, why did the prop department pre-cut your glass? Tsk tsk... Supreme Being my ass...

Movie Mistake: Wizard of Oz

Nooo! We HATE to think of anything being wrong with The Wizard of Oz. It's almost blasphemous. But alas... Dorothy had a wardrobe malfunction. In a few frames of the film you can see she forgot her ruby slippers and opted for sneakers instead.

Just doesn't have the same ring to it... "There's no place like Payless.. there's no place like Payless..."

Movie Mistake: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) was a smash success, and returned martial arts movies to the western world. It received critical acclaim and won many cinematic awards.

Now all the gushing aside, there's always an eff-up to mention. See below for the hilariousness of movie-making.

Who knew the cell-phone was actually invented in 1778, during the Qing Dynasty in China? WOW! We knew Asians were always ahead of the times when it comes to electronics, but this is just ridiculous!

Movie Mistake: Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park (1993) sure is a classic. It was the pioneer of animatronics, CGI, and even some sound effects. In fact, it scared the crappers out of me so bad when I saw it in theatres (at age 7) that I had to leave. Thanks for taking me to see it, Dad. Scarred for life! Just kidding, I'm cool now.

As technologically advanced as this movie was at the time, there were still some flubs when it came to certain details (other than the fact that we can't bring back dinosaurs from mosquitos).

The scene shown below, if you think back, portrayed the tech guy Dennis supposedly having a live conversation with some dude on the dock. Now that movie-goers are more tech-savvy, we can spot that the 'streaming video' (as we would call it today) is actually a recorded video clip. You can see the progress bar moving along the bottom.

Spielberg would have known at the time that audiences wouldn't have caught this, since nobody had much of a clue about computers waaaayyy back in '93. But as time has passed, and since the film has stuck around due to its greatness, most of us can see how this is something the audience wasn't meant to notice.

Was this too much of a dorky movie mistake? Mybad.

Movie Mistake: Troy

Mmm... look at that sexy Trojan.. all muscular and manly and dirty. I love historical films, set in the olden days... such a simple time... wait a second! What century are we supposed to be in exactly?

Thank the editors of Troy (2004) for missing this giant jumbo jet in the shot.
They didn't need to bother launching a thousand ships...they could have just used their airmiles to get to Sparta. Sheesh.
