Top Gun 2 - I'm not even kidding...

Top Gun 2 officially has an IMDB page, although it's still categorized as in development.

Why oh why is this necessary? These decades-later-sequels just don't do it for me. It seems so lazy. Studio execs just run out of new ideas and start looking through their DVD collections and go "Oh! THIS could use a sequel!" Hence, Top Gun 2 is apparently coming sometime in 2013.

Would you see this? Does this annoy you like it does me? Who would you like to see as Maverick, Goose, and Iceman? I think they should just go for broke and bring back ALL the orig cast and not acknowledge how old they are now or that any time has passed. Well except Goose, because SPOILER - he died.

Emma Stone's a Busy Gal!

Thanks to a tip from Cin-Ob The Masked Critic about Stone's involvement with the Spidey reboot, we thought we'd check out Emma's other upcoming projects.

So firstly, Emma was rumoured to be playing Mary-Jane in the prequel (of sorts) Spiderman flick. A little googling tells us it's been announced officially - she'll be playing Gwen Stacy, a previous Peter Parker love interest (played by Bryce Dallas Howard in Spiderman 3). That sounds more legitimate, since I don't think anyone would believe Emma as a young Kirsten Dunst. But I highly doubt that's what they're going for, since - interesting tidbit - the new Peter Parker will be played by Andrew Garfield, who recently starred in The Social Network. These aren't exactly look-alikes to the original cast, so I assume they're just starting over, so to speak.

The film is supposed to be released in July 2012, but with all the trouble the film had getting off the ground, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Emma Stone is also rumoured to be participating in the new 21 Jump Street movie, also coming in 2012. Other possible cast-mates include Jonah Hill, and no-names Jason Sheppard (you don't know him, trust me), Zef Balbona (awesome name, don't know him, but he looks like a Cullen), and Harry Cook (who?).

An undercover police unit consisting of young looking officers infiltrate high schools to control youth crime  [IMDB]

I'll watch this movie, although I didn't really watch the show. I'll just be hoping J-Depp makes a cameo. God knows he won't cuz he's too busy being cool over in France to relive his youth a little bit. Ok that's unfair, I have no idea if he'll show up for a cameo. But you know who will? Richard Grieco. He's not up to much these days.

Jim Carrey in Where's Waldo?

I guess the studios weren't listening when we nominated McLovin for the role of Waldo.

The Where's Waldo? movie is coming sometime in 2013 and the internetmajigger tells us Jim Carrey is now attached to the project to play the main white and red man himself. This could be a great choice, since we know he's a silly wacky dude, but - no offense Jim - we thought Waldo would be younger.

We've said it before and we'll say it again - we have high hopes for this movie, and we pray it's not too Disneyfied. Universal is backing the film, so it might be middle of the road - PG13 or so.

We want an adult spin on Waldo. We want Waldo as a fish out of water, come to life out of the book with that evil Wizard coming after him, or there's some world-wide search for him with a monetary reward for his capture. Or something. (There was an evil wizard in the book wasn't there? No? Damn.)

What do you guys think of this casting? Do you think someone else might do it better?

Also, I tagged this post with book-to-movie. That counts right?

Now enjoy this hilarious parody trailer of The Waldo Ultimatum.

In Today's Green News...

Here we have Canadian heart-throb Ryan Reynolds in costume for his role in The Green Lantern, coming in 2011. Ooooh evil stare and skin tight outfit! Love it lotsly.

Here we have Seth Rogen and Jay Chou on set of Rogen's new action flick The Green Hornet, also coming in 2011.

Here they are again, experimenting with what will probably be our hero's vehicle.
And it looks BADASS!

And now Christoph Waltz as the baddie in The Green Hornet, Chudnofsky, with a giant mofo gun. That was a great description wasn't it? I'M LAZY! Use your eyes!

And let's not forget the rumours flying all over the internet about Mark Ruffalo as the new HULK in the upcoming Avengers movie! So far it's just speculation, but he's apparently at the top of a short list to play the green machine we know and love. It's not the weirdest choice. I mean, Edward Norton played the Hulk, so it's not like it HAS to be some macho action star. Norton's kinda prissy, so I don't see why Ruffs couldn't do it! Isn't that the whole point? He goes from normal guy to CRAZY GREEN WACKO! RAAAWWWR!!!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Riddler in new Batman??

CinemaBlend.com (among others) is reporting that JGL will be playing that wacky madman, The Riddler, in the new Batman film! And apparently he has been identified as director Christopher Nolan's first choice!

Now this is only rumours at this point, but we think it could be a great fit for him. Have we mentioned how happy we are Jo-Go is making a comeback? He disappeared for a while, but we were giddy to see him in 500 Days of Summer and G.I. Joe! And due to his role in G.I. Joe, we know he can totally play a mad scientist dude.

Interesting tidbit here - One of Joseph's first leading man roles was in that 1999 teen classic, 10 Things I Hate About You. Heath Ledger had a big break in that film as well, and went on to play The Joker in The Dark Knight (2008). Teen stars turned Batman villains. COINCIDENCE? Yeah probably.

Do you think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would make a good Riddler? Do you have any other preferences for this role?

Zombieland 2!

Although nothing has been written in stone yet, almost all the peeps behind Zombieland have said publicly that a sequel is a definite possibility!

Apparently screenwriter Paul Wernick said that SEVERAL sequels were possible... and in 3D! Yeaahh! Nothin' like heads exploding in 3 dimensions!

All of the cast have expressed interest in a sequel, and Woody Harrelson is said to have hugged the crew after the final scene was filmed and said " I've never wanted to do a sequel in the previous movies I've done until this one." HELL YEAH! Good choice, Woody, we'd totally be down for more adventures in Z-Land.

The screenplay is currently being written, with hopes of being ready by late 2010 or early 2011.

Before you finish writing, I have ideas you should incorporate!

- lead characters fighting for survival with gangs and roughnecks (as in many apocalyptic films)
- a love interest for Woody
- the introduction of the possibility of a cure
- Willie Nelson cameo

That's all I've got for now, but the gears are turning!

Would you see this sequel? Have any ideas for some new shenanigans?

Top Secret Teaser for J.J. Abrams Film - Super 8!

Watch it before it's pulled from Youtube! See what all the hype is about!

Originally it was rumoured to be a sequel (or prequel) to Cloverfield (2008) but Abrams has denied it publicly.

With a title like Super 8 (a type of film invented in the 60s by Kodak), and the final shot in the teaser of a camera lens, we can only hope this will be another amazing first person perspective film!

Anchorman 2 a NO-GO!

Sexy Cin-Ob ASBLACKASOBAMA, from I Think It's Interesting, gave us a great tip yesterday!

Actually it's not that great, because we're devastated to learn this bit of info!

Adam McKay, the brilliant writer of the screenplays for Step Brothers (2008) and Anchorman (2004) (among other Will Ferrell classics) recently revealed some details about the collapse of Anchorman 2.

McKay tweeted:

'So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.'

and

'To all who asked: no we can't do Anchorman 2 at another studio. Paramount owns it.'

So we must ask ourselves.... Why would the studios choose to make a Magic 8 Ball movie, when they can make Anchorman 2?

See? We're not the only ones weirded out by the Magic 8 Ball thing...

Sneak Peek of Upcoming Ninja Turtles!

The live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is due out in 2012, and if this leaked photo is any indication, it's gonna rock!

Although I'm wondering where the "teenage" part comes into play... because this turtle looks ancient. It'll be weird to see this old-man-turtle saying things like "cowabunga" and having pizza parties. Looks more like he needs a walker.

But other than that, I think it looks awesome!

Tim Burton to Remake Little Shop Of Horrors!

Along with working on an upcoming Addams Family film and the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer flick, it is also rumoured that Tim Burton will be re-imagining Little Shop Of Horrors!

As much as we hate when our favies are revamped, we think Burton is just the right person to give it a try. As long as we don't have to see Johnny Depp as Seymour Krelborn. Just.... no. There is talk that this movie would be done entirely in motion capture performances, so we'll say our prayers that it isn't so.

There are certain elements that they CANNOT mess with. I want to hear all the original songs (not overly manipulated into unrecognizable new crap), I want the Shoop Shoop narrator chicks, and the plant must talk and sing - in a soulful sexy baritone. Ohhh yeahhh! Also, special effects have come soooo far since 1986 that they better not CGI the shit outta the Audry II. Come on, if the 80s effects guys could make that plant so amazingly realistic, they can definitely knock our socks off nowadays.

I would also personally enjoy a 3D mean green mother from outer space. It could work.

So who would you like to see cast in this project (let's hope it's live action)?

Chris Evans Officially Cast as Captain America!

Cinematical is reporting that Chris Evans has officially been cast as Captain America, after long talks about other candidates such as John Krasinski, Chris Hemsworth, and Chace Crawford (among others).

Apparently Evans was hesitant to accept the role of Captain America, having already dazzled the comic-book crowd with his portrayal of the Human Torch in both Fantastic Four movies. This new role could mean many many movies as this character (3 Captain America movies, plus some Avengers movies that are in the works, as well as other Marvel crossovers). Talk about commitment to a character!

Future Tim Burton Project Revealed - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Although we were disappointed in the overly hyped Alice in Wonderland, we still have full faith in Tim Burton to entertain us. Nobody's perfect all the time.

(side note - has anyone else seen Alice in Wonderland? What did you think?)

So anyway, turning classic themes into modern horror flicks seems to be the new trend in Hollywood. And we're all for it!

One example is the new film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on the best-selling book. Well according to IMDB and other movies sites like Deadline.com, Burton will be taking on another book by the same author, chronicling the little known "true" story of Abe Lincoln. He was a vampire hunter. I always knew that, but that's because I belong to various secret societies and conspiracy groups that I could get in trouble for even mentioning.

But anyway, you civilians will finally know the truth sometime in 2011.

OH GOD YES! Wet Hot American Summer Prequel!

Hallelujah! We will totally be first in line for this one!

The cult favourite, Wet Hot American Summer (2001), which starred a whole bunch of our favie comedians, might get a prequel! YEAH! The movie focused on the last day of summer camp, and the rumoured prequel will show us the summer at camp that we didn't get to see!

The cast at the time were a decade too old to play teenage camp counsellors, and that was part of the hilarity of it. The same actors, even older, would reprise their roles, and in a sense emphasize the joke (seeing as they're now 20 years too old). And technically they would be even younger than they were in the original. I love the irony.

And almost ALL of the cast have become huge stars since the original film! Bradley Cooper, hello!

Oh sweet Jesus, pleeeaaassee come back for the prequel! I'm talkin' to you Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler... and the rest! (haha it's like Gilligan's Island where the others don't get named).

I would like to see more of how Molly Shannon's breakdown began, and how she met that supportive little tyke in her arts and crafts class.

I'd also love to see Gene's descent into madness, and his blossoming love affair with the talking can of veg.

With so many possible storylines to revisit, our official stance is - YES. DO THE PREQUEL!!!

Sin City 2 & 3?!

Exqueeeeeze me??!

There might be a 2nd and 3rd installment of Sin City?! We're so in! In fact, we're so in we decided to put together a very special teaser poster for you Cin-Obs.

Now, try not to crap yourselves with joy, excitement, glee, whatever emotion you're feeling right now...

We really don't like guns or real-life violence, but you gotta admit... we look so BADASS! We're so intimidating with those big guns, trench coats, and gorgeous smiling faces.

So possible plotlines? Anyone? We're guessing we might just get a bunch more intersecting stories from the characters that survived the first film. There weren't many survivors, but hey, just give us some NEW heroes and baddies.

I really wish the creepy Elijah Wood character had survived, because I'd looove to see him again. I suggest they bring back his canabalistic brother to seek revenge on his mutilated bro. And eat some folks along the way. Does it mean I'm sick that this was my favourite part of the movie? Whatever. Nom nom nom, eat up Elijah! I heart your creepiness.

Avatar Sequels!

Who didn't see this coming? Milk it, Cameron! Milk it for all it's worth!

But seriously, we totally wanna see more of Pandora. Yeah yeah, we got wrapped up in the hype of Avatar... pssshhh whatever. It was good and you know it.

Cameron has said many times since the release of the super-extreme money-making film that he's working on sequels. He might even be making it a trilogy! We're cool with this as long as the next films are as good as the first.

He has confirmed that the story would follow Jake and Neytiri's lives on Pandora, and we can only hope we'll get to see some blue on blue action that they deprived us of in the first film. Come on, you know you were secretly hoping for a love scene.

Cameron has also said humans will return as the baddies, stirring up more shit over unobtainium. When will our stupid race learn?! Why oh why must we be so horrible! WHHYYY!!!!! Sorry, I got really into it there for a second.

Stephen Lang, who played the scarred-up arsehole Colonel Quaritch, has said he will be back for the sequels.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "You think those two arrows in my chest are going to stop me from coming back? Nothing's over so long as they've got my DNA."

Ya had to bring DNA into this... Well I guess it's the future so they can do anything and we'll just accept it. As long as Giovanni Ribisi doesn't come back. We love him, but his performance was cheesetastic.

Natalie Portman as Elizabeth Bennet... with ZOMBIES!

Rumours are a-flyin'!

Natalie Portman might be starring as the heroine of the not-yet-classic novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the popular bizarro remake of the well known novel that somehow incorporates zombies. Sure, why not! As long as someone dark and awesome with zombie experience (Robert Rodriguez, George A. Romero) takes the project... but I don't know the book, so if it's supposed to be a comedy then I'll have to think about it...

Don't ask for many details... we're Cinema Obsessed... not classic novel obsessed (but we can read, I swear... mostly movie novelizations but whatever. A book's a book).

More to come when we find out.

Ed Helms to be the next Inspector Clouseau!

Ed Helms, of The Hangover and tv's The Office, is getting ready to star as the classic character Inspector Clouseau in the next Pink Panther movie! Apparently Steve Martin is stepping down, but we don't know why. It could be an age thing, bowing out gracefully, or it could be poor box office numbers that prompted the change in leading man.

Either way, Helms is frickin' funny, and we can't wait to see what he does with Clouseau!

Flip Flop: Sean Penn is back in the Stooges Project!

We told you a while ago about Sean Penn dropping out of the Farrelly Brothers newest project, the Three Stooges film, apparently to spend more time with his family and try to reconcile his marriage.

But I guess that fell through, since he's now officially getting divorced, and he's re-accepted the role of Larry in the film!

So as of right now, we have Sean as Larry, Benicio Del Toro as Moe, and a big question mark for Curly! Jim Carrey also ditched the project, and the internet is buzzing with rumours that Paul Giamatti will take on the challenge.

We think it's a good fit, but we're wondering if this movie will ever get started since the casting is so flip-floppy. We expect good things from the Farrelly Brothers, so we hope they get their shiznit together and start actually making the movie!

Aiden to return to Sex and the City sequel!

The rumour mill is a-brewin'!

Insiders are leaking some plot lines for the new Sex and the City movie! And it's juuiiiicccy!!

So don't hold this against us if it's not true, but we've heard that AIDEN is gonna make an appearance! If you're not a SATC follower, Aiden was Carrie's boyfriend at one point in the series... and he was one who never effed up, and audiences loved (at least we did). She cheated on him with Mr. Big and even though Aiden got over it, things ended between them when Carrie wouldn't marry him. Awwww. So anyway, now you're all caught up.

Apparently Aiden will appear in the film and have a tryst with the MARRIED Carrie Bradshaw. Gaaawwwwd it's like the filmmakers WANT us to hate her. She keeps effing things up, so it's hard to feel sorry for her.

I don't know about you guys (if you care at all anyway) but I ALWAYS wanted her to end up with Aiden. But I gotta say, I'm against this alleged affair.

Although it DOES make for a better plot line than Carrie trying to get pregnant.

Sigourney spills Ghostbusters beans!

Sigourney Weaver is running her mouth about the new Ghostbusters movie!

She says:

"I’m afraid to say it [Ghostbusters 3] is happening, I hope people are excited about that. I don’t know if I’m going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking ‘would you read the script’.
I know that my little son Oscar – who was kidnapped from me – I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster.

I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he’s a ghost."

Well, she doesn't sound too thrilled about this new installment! We get the idea she's feeling the same as us - it's a cool idea, but she's apprehensive because sometimes you just don't touch a classic. If it ain't broke...

So apparently her son from the film will be a grown-up ghostbuster... that's a pretty cool concept. Predictable, but cool. She also goes on to blow a huge plot line for the general public by saying Bill Murray will return, AS A GHOST! Holy crap! That could be awesome, especially if he's still in cahoots with the Ghostbusters... kinda like their inside man.

More details to come!
